Black is a pure colour that indicates the absence of colour or light. It is the visual perception of absolute darkness, the total lack of luminous flux or an intensity below the limits of perception. Black is a highly symbolic colour. It is the manifestation of mourning in Christian culture and for designers, it symbolises elegance. But it is also darkness and shadows, the colour of the devil. We propose a journey through the black clothing women have worn for years.
The exhibition at Museu d’Arenys de Mar invites you to reflect on the symbolism of black in women’s clothing through pieces from Museu d’Arenys de Mar and new proposals from Eli Conde and Joseu Luís Luances, who bring from Galicia a new take on men’s and women’s clothing inspired by the colour black.
