The parish church of Arenys de Mar was built between 1584 and 1628.
The main building, in late Gothic style, consists of a central aisle, surrounded by chapels opened between the buttresses, a polygonal apse and covered with a cross vault.
This first church was extended later on in the 18th and 19th centuries with three chapels: Our Lady of Sorrows, the Minerva and the Sacred Sacrament.
The baroque façade is flanked by a bell tower, crowned by a turret of the early 20th century, and a watchtower, one of the most characteristic parts of the monument.
The church of Santa Maria of Arenys de Mar is dominated by a baroque altarpiece, carved between 1706 and 1711 by the sculptor Pau Costa and with marble plinth in the Renaissance style.
The wall paintings adorning the babtistry are from sketches by Josep Obiols.
The architect Cesar Martinell designed the pulpits, altar and other elements after the Spanish Civil War.
